The Masters family is in the process of defining and establishing a 501(c)(3) foundation aimed at better outcomes for young persons with autoimmune hemolytic anemia. The mission includes building awareness, communicating best practices, and awarding research grants.

Information on donations to support efforts toward better outcomes for young persons with autoimmune hemolytic anemia will be available early in 2010.

Also, a fund has been established at The Food Project (TFP) to honor Henry's commitment to youth development, his respect for the communities with which TFP is connected, and his love of the land, both urban and suburban.

Margaret Williams, The Food Project's executive director, writes: "The intentional bridging of communities at The Food Project reflects the organization's deeply held value that diversity brings strength. Henry embodied that value. Donations in Henry's name will support TFP's Academic Year Program - more specifically, the annual weekend retreat that takes place each fall, after completion of the program.

The retreat is when youth really gel into a cohesive unit, despite differences in class, race, and educational standing. Henry was a catalyst in this setting. His ability to reach each youth while caring for the group as a whole was truly amazing to observe. He created a safe space where youth had the freedom to explore their own preconceptions about those different from themselves. Not many people have that talent. We will miss Henry's safe space without realizing it. That is the reason why we and Henry's family feel that supporting the retreat is the best way to honor Henry and his many years at TFP."
